Château Tronquoy-Lalande Saint-Estèphe review. Tasting notes, food matching (Sunday Roast Lamb), and Cru Bourgeois quality. Fine Bordeaux Claret. :

Château Tronquoy-Lalande: A Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois of Distinction

Nestled in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château Tronquoy-Lalande is an historic Cru Bourgeois property owned by the Bouygues family (also owners of Château Montrose). Its unique clay-gravel terroir, with a higher proportion of Merlot than many of its neighbours, results in a wine that is both powerful and wonderfully approachable, even in its relative youth. The estate’s dedication to quality and sustainability makes this a consistently excellent and highly sought-after claret.

    Tasting Notes

    • Colour: A deep, vibrant garnet core with a dark ruby hue.
    • Nose: Elegant and complex, offering concentrated aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, and liquorice, beautifully integrated with subtle woody notes, cedar, and a hint of fresh mint.
    • Palate: Rich, full-bodied, and layered. It displays the classic 'muscle' and tannic structure of Saint-Estèphe, but with a refined, plush mouthfeel due to the high Merlot content. The persistent finish is marked by spice and a superb purity of dark fruit. A claret with great potential for long-term cellaring.

    Food Matching & Service

This wine demands a hearty, classic main course. Serving Temperature: 16-18°C. Decant for an hour before serving to appreciate its full complexity.

    • Food Matching: Superb with traditional British roasts and game dishes.
