Chapoutier Crozes Hermitage La Petite Ruche Red 2018 A Selection Sommelier From Crozes Hermitage

Description of the appellation and the region

The CHAPOUTIER CROZES HERMITAGE LA PETITE RUCHE ROUGE is a wine from the Rhône region, more specifically from the Crozes Hermitage La Petite Ruche appellation. This appellation is located in the north of the Rhône valley, on the left bank of the river. The vineyards extend over an area of 1,600 hectares, spread over 11 communes. The soils are composed of stones, gravel, and alluvium, which gives the wine a beautiful minerality.

Organoleptic characteristics

The CHAPOUTIER CROZES HERMITAGE LA PETITE RUCHE ROUGE is a red wine made from Syrah grapes. Its robe is deep and intense red. On the nose, it reveals aromas of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, as well as spicy notes of black pepper and licorice. In the mouth, it is generous and well-structured, with firm and elegant tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with notes of black fruits and sweet spices.

The producer, Maison Chapoutier

The CHAPOUTIER CROZES HERMITAGE LA PETITE RUCHE ROUGE is produced by Maison Chapoutier, founded in 1808 in Tain-l’Hermitage. Since 1990, it has been led by Michel Chapoutier, who has infused a new dynamic by adopting vine-growing practices that are more respectful of the environment. Thus, Maison Chapoutier has been certified organic and biodynamic for several years. It is also committed to the preservation of ancient grape varieties in the Rhône region, such as Viognier and Marsanne.

Food and wine pairings

The CHAPOUTIER CROZES HERMITAGE LA PETITE RUCHE ROUGE pairs well with red meat dishes, such as grilled beef fillet or leg of lamb. It can also accompany cheese dishes, such as Auvergne blue cheese or Roquefort.

Trivia about the wine

The name “La Petite Ruche” refers to the beehives installed in the vineyards, which promote biodiversity and limit the use of pesticides. This practice, called gentle beekeeping, is widely used by Maison Chapoutier in its vineyards.
